The second layer
Goal: The first two layers solved.
Hold your cube like the one on screen (yellow on top) and repeat the moves of each case.
Use the cube on the page: watch the cases, then practice. Turn layers by dragging a piece or with the keyboard (U D R L F B, Shift = prime).
With the first layer done and yellow on top, it's time for the four middle-layer edges: the ones without yellow.
- Find an edge on top without yellow.
- Turn U until the color on its side matches the center of that side, and bring that face to the front.
- Look at the top color of the edge: if it matches the right center, it goes right; if it matches the left one, it goes left.
If an edge is in the middle layer but wrong (in another slot or flipped), put it front-right and do the right-hand algorithm: it pops up to the top layer and you can place it.
The two algorithms are mirror images: notice they start by turning U away from the side the edge is going to.
Got it?When you can do it on your cube, mark it to track your progress.
Practice on the cube: when you succeed, the lesson will be marked as done.
