The white corners
Goal: The whole first layer: the white face and a stripe of color on each side.
Hold your cube like the one on screen (yellow on top) and repeat the moves of each case.
Use the cube on the page: watch the cases, then practice. Turn layers by dragging a piece or with the keyboard (U D R L F B, Shift = prime).
Now the four white corners, to finish the first layer. Here comes the most famous algorithm on the cube: R U R' U'.
How to place a corner
- Find a white corner in the top layer.
- Turn the top layer (U) until the corner sits right above its slot: between the centers of its other two colors.
- Rotate the cube so that slot is front-right.
- Repeat
R U R' U'until the corner drops into place: 1, 3 or 5 times depending on where the white is facing.
If a white corner is already at the bottom but in the wrong slot or twisted, put it front-right and do R U R' once: it goes up to the top layer and you can place it like the others.
Don't worry if pieces on top move while you repeat the algorithm: only the bottom layer matters.
Practice on the cube: when you succeed, the lesson will be marked as done.
