Advanced F2L

Goal: Pairs in fewer moves and without rotating the cube.

Hold your cube like the one on screen (yellow on top) and repeat the moves of each case.

Use the cube on the page: watch the cases, then practice. Turn layers by dragging a piece or with the keyboard (U D R L F B and M, Shift = prime). Rw is R + M'.

F2L is the longest part of the solve, and the one you can improve the most without learning new algorithms: it's about seeing each pair and solving it in few moves.

Time-saving tricks

  1. Use free slots: while a back slot is empty, you can use it to split or pair pieces without breaking anything (the "keyhole").
  2. Don't rotate the cube to see a back pair: often a U brings it to the front, or you can solve it from the back with R' U R.
  3. Free stuck pieces first: if a piece of a pair is in another slot, take it out while you work on another pair.
  4. X-cross: when it's easy, plan the cross together with the first pair during inspection.

In practice, the hint always shows the shortest way to do the next pair. Compare it with yours.

Got it?When you can do it on your cube, mark it to track your progress.

Practice on the cube: when you succeed, the lesson will be marked as done.
