The road to sub-20
Goal: Have a plan to get under 20 seconds.
Hold your cube like the one on screen (yellow on top) and repeat the moves of each case.
Use the cube on the page: watch the cases, then practice. Turn layers by dragging a piece or with the keyboard (U D R L F B and M, Shift = prime). Rw is R + M'.
Two-look CFOP gets you to 30-40 seconds. To get under 20 you need what competition speedcubers use: one-look OLL and PLL, a more efficient F2L and, above all, no pauses.
In which order to learn
- Full PLL first (21 algorithms): there are few, they come up in every solve and you notice them right away. Start with the ones you already know (T, Y, U, H, Z), then J, A, F, R and V; leave the G and N perms for last.
- Advanced F2L: learn the best solutions for the cases you struggle with and how to use free slots.
- Full OLL (57): by families. You already know the 7 cross ones; then the oriented-corner ones, T, P, C and W, and the dot ones last.
While you learn, use the new algorithms when they come up and two-look for the rest. You don't need to know them all to start improving.
The trainer has full OLL and PLL: enable only the cases you are learning and repeat them until they come out without thinking.
Got it?When you can do it on your cube, mark it to track your progress.
