Intuitive F2L

Goal: The first two layers, pair by pair.

Hold your cube like the one on screen (yellow on top) and repeat the moves of each case.

Use the cube on the page: watch the cases, then practice. Turn layers by dragging a piece or with the keyboard (U D R L F B and M, Shift = prime). Rw is R + M'.

In F2L you place a white corner together with the middle edge that goes next to it: a pair. Four pairs and the first two layers are done.

There's nothing to memorize: everything is done with U turns and a few "triggers" like R U R' or F' U F, which only move the top layer and one slot. That way you never break the cross or the pairs you already have.

The three steps of each pair

  1. Find a white corner and its edge (both without yellow, with the same colors).
  2. Pair them up in the top layer, with the side colors matching.
  3. Insert the pair into its slot, which should be at the front right.

The basic cases

With the slot at the front right and the corner above it:

When the corner or the edge is stuck in another slot, take it out first with a trigger of that slot (for example R U R'). In practice, the hint shows you the shortest way for each pair.

Got it?When you can do it on your cube, mark it to track your progress.

Practice on the cube: when you succeed, the lesson will be marked as done.
