Checkerboard pattern
Every face alternates two colors like a chessboard.
About this pattern
It's the most classic Rubik's cube pattern. It's made with half turns only (R2, L2, U2, D2, F2 and B2): each half turn swaps the pieces of a face with the ones opposite without twisting them, and doing it on all six faces leaves every face alternating its color with the opposite face's, like a chessboard.
It has its own name: Pons Asinorum ("the bridge of donkeys"), because it's usually the first pattern everyone learns. A fun fact: do it twice in a row and the cube is solved again. Also try it with the middle layers (M2 E2 S2): you get the same board with just three turns.
How to do it
- Start with a solved cube, with yellow on top and blue in front.
- Do these 6 moves (press the button to watch them on the cube).
- To undo it, do the algorithm backwards:
B2 F2 D2 U2 L2 R2.
With the Kubixel cube you can do it step by step, share it or save it. Open it in Kubixel →
