Each face with a center of another color.
About this pattern
Every face keeps its color except the center, which becomes another color. The trick is in pairs of turns like R L': turning two opposite faces in opposite directions is the same as turning the whole cube and moving only the middle layer. That way corners and edges never come apart and the only thing that "moves" is the centers.
Since only the centers change, it's a great pattern to see that on a 3x3 the centers never move relative to each other: they're always the pieces that tell you each face's color.
How to do it
- Start with a solved cube, with yellow on top and blue in front.
- Do these 8 moves (press the button to watch them on the cube).
- To undo it, do the algorithm backwards:
L R' D U' B F' L R'.
