Superflip pattern

Every edge flipped in place. The position furthest from solved: 20 moves.

About this pattern

Every piece is in place, but all 12 edges are flipped. It looks easy to undo and it's exactly the opposite: the superflip was the first position proven, in 1995, to need 20 moves to solve.

In 2010 it was proven that any 3x3 scramble can be solved in 20 moves or fewer (the so-called "God's number"), so the superflip is among the farthest positions there are. Another fun fact: do the algorithm twice and the cube is solved again.

How to do it

  1. Start with a solved cube, with yellow on top and blue in front.
  2. Do these 20 moves (press the button to watch them on the cube).
  3. To undo it, do the algorithm backwards: F2 U2 B2 L' R F' R2 D U R' B2 L' U2 R' B2 R' B' F' R2 U'.

With the Kubixel cube you can do it step by step, share it or save it. Open it in Kubixel →
